Music

Like all art forms, music means various things to different people. For some it represents loud drum beats and thumping bass lines, which are familiar in clubs across the country. To others it represents wailing guitars and intricate drum solos as their favourite rock stars entertain them on stage.

These might seem to be polar opposites, particularly in terms of lifestyle. But how different are they? For both of these worlds, music makes up a large part of their cultural and social identity.

Both share their music with their friends, both experience the joy of hearing their favourite songs in good company as state of the art speakers blast out the tunes for the entire hall or auditorium to hear. Though the music and the meaning is different, the setting and sense of belonging remains the same.

To some, music is the silence filler that softly accompanies a hospital waiting room, the workplace, or in a lift. Music is all around us – it binds us and brings us closer together; it gives us something to discuss and debate. Without music, a large part of the cultural makeup of our world would be lost
